Eon
Burchman:
Eon
Burchman started playing the guitar at the age of eight years old. His
mother bought him a "used guitar" at a yard sale and started him with
lessons. Eon grew up listening to Eddie Van Halen and other guitarists
imitating their styles. In high school he played in the "Jazz Band" and
he became fascinated with Fusion and Jazz based music. He attended
Berklee College of music in Boston in 1989, where he studied the
fundamentals of contemporary harmony and playing within the Jazz idiom.
He also found inspiration from his peers, many of whom have become
acclaimed musicians today.
Eon returned to Southern California to finish his bachelors degree in
Music Performance on the classical guitar at the University of
California, Irvine. There he studied with "James Newton", the award
winning flautist and composer of the legendary "Charles Mingus
Orchestra". While at UCI he played at many local venues in Orange County
gathering the top players to perform his original compositions and
"stretch out" in the field of improvisation. Eon took a year to study
abroad in 1993 at the University of Wollongong in Australia where he
focused on Jazz and Modern Aboriginal music. His inspiration was
accelerated by the enthusiam he met with his peers and the enegry
charged music they composed and performed together. In 1997 Eon Burchman
began a masters degree studying at the University of Southern California
in the Jazz department. He apprenticed under the guru of modern "Jazz
Guitar", Joe Diorio. In studying with Joe he was guided toward the
discovery of his inner voice and bringing this out through the
exploration in the subtleties of the Jazz Guitar . Eon has been
performing with great performers in California such as John "Bunk"
Gardner and Don Preston of Zappa's "Mothers of Invention". He also plays
with his former guitar teachers, Sid Jacobs, Larry Kunz and other
masters of their instrument. Eon has toured around the world playing in
the Middle East to Puerto Rico and is developing writing and recording
music that is taking him to greater recognition. |
