What Kind of DJ Am I?

There are several types of disc jockeys. Radio DJs or radio personalities introduce and play music that is broadcast on AM, FM, shortwave, digital, or internet radio stations. Club DJs select and play music in bars, nightclubs, discothèques, at raves, or even in a stadium. Hip hop disc jockeys select and play music using multiple turntables, often to back up one or more MCs. They may also do turntable scratching, to create percussive sounds. In reggae, the DJ (deejay) is a vocalist who raps, “toasts”, or chats over pre-recorded rhythm tracks while the individual choosing and playing them is referred to as a selector. Mobile DJs, by definition, travel with portable sound systems and play/mix recorded music for various types events and venues.
I am a Mobile DJ. I use high quality digital recordings. I take requests on the fly, during the event, and I prepare playlists based of my clients specified preferences. I am an improv mix artist. I use Ableton Live. “Ableton Live's nonlinear, intuitive flow, alongside powerful real-time editing and flexible performance options, make it a unique studio tool and a favorite with live performers.”

I will host events and provide public speaking coaching when needed.

I am the Master of Ceremonies as the situation demands. An MC usually presents performers, speaks to the audience, and generally keeps the event moving. I am a professionally trained performance coach, trainer, sound tech and MC.

I completed two MC/sound tech internships over two years of job training and coursework. From 2005 to 2007, I was a recording and editing engineer for the NLP Institute of California, Where I received professional certifications as a Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programing, Life Coaching and Wealthy Mind Training. I have over a thousand hours of communication and language training, all of which was hands on professional skills development. It's been my mission to support meaningful and creative communication at number of professional and interpersonal levels through music and sound design.

In 2009 I interned for SAG Audio & Staging, where I worked as a personal assistant to Cliff Verhoff. My responsibilities included a wide range of production and management tasks, including transportation management, staging, lighting, and live sound reinforcement. At SAG Pro Audio & Staging I learned to be totally responsible for every aspect of live musical performances.
